Police in the United Kingdom are investigating the sale of fake “sister” clothes by a woman who is believed to be an international scam artist.
A 28-year-old woman from Kent is suspected of taking photos of women she claims to be sisters and posting them on social media, police in Essex said on Friday.
The photos, which police said are of women in dresses, were posted on social networks and included the names and contact details of women who had purchased the clothes, Essex Police said.
Police said in a statement that the woman was arrested on Friday, but that she was being held on suspicion of making and distributing fake merchandise, which could amount to fraud.
Authorities said she had been living in the UK since December and was known to police for “bribery, theft, false advertising, identity fraud, extortion and other offences.”
Police have launched a separate investigation into the same woman who police say posted fake photos of two women on Instagram in January.
